Library Purchasing Guidelines for Authors and Publishers

The Wauwatosa Public Library (WPL) acquires material as outlined in its Collection Development Policy. WPL purchases material through library vendors and commercial booksellers. WPL does not purchase directly from authors. A positive review in one or more of the major review journals (such as Library Journal, School Library Journal, Kirkus Reviews, Booklist, The Horn Book, and Publisher's Weekly) is the best way to bring a title to WPL's attention. WPL is more likely to consider the addition of a title if it has been positively reviewed in a major review journal. Major review journals have information on their websites for authors to submit their work for review.

WPL does not accept review copies, and WPL does not notify individual authors or publishers of ordering decisions or give feedback.

Authors and publishers may also bring their title to WPL's attention by:

Email
Authors and publishers can email the following information to WPL:

  • Basic bibliographic information about the title, including title, author, ISBN, publisher, date of publication, number of pages, price, and distributor.
  • A link to the title's website and links to professional reviews or other coverage in the media, if available.
  • A brief description of the title and its intended audience and information about how or where to purchase it.

Donating a Title
Donated items are handled in accordance with WPL's Donations Policy. Donated items are subject to the same selection criteria as books that WPL purchases.
