Our librarians put together a list of additional resources that we've found helpful and hope that they may be helpful for you.
Bullying Resources:
Teens Against Bullying provides a platform with age appropriate content to learn about bullying prevention, educates teens about what to do if they are a victim of bullying, and inspires active engagement in bullying prevention in local communities.
Eating Disorders:
If you, or someone you know, is struggling with an eating disorder, visit The National Eating Disorders Association's website. They offer an online screening tool as well as a helpline where you can chat, talk, or text with a trained volunteer to help you find the information and support you are looking for.
Health Resources:
For information on health and wellness, visit the Wauwatosa Health Department's website. The Health Department offers resources on nutrition, mental health, sexual health, and substance abuse in addition to other health-related resources.
LGBTQ+ Resources:
The Milwaukee LGBT Community Center is dedicated to serving the needs of LGBTQ people and to making the Greater Milwaukee area safer and more inclusive, focusing on anti-violence, healthy relationships, counseling, and programming.
Founded in 1998, the Trevor Project is the leading national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning young people under age 25.
Mental Health Resources:
The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is a national network of local crisis centers that provides free and confidential emotional support to people in crisis or emotional distress 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Many teens have mental health problems, but it is important to know that help is available. Children's Hospital of Wisconsin has put together a list of common mental health problems affecting teens and provides a brief overview of common mental health issues.
If you, or someone you are concerned about, has a substance abuse problem, visit the National Institutes of Health for guidance on helping find treatment.
Sexual Assault Resources:
RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network) is the nation's largest anti-sexual violence organization, helping to prevent sexual violence, help survivors, and ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice.
